However, pupil teams should provide their own funding to support payload development and integration and there are a few document “deliverables” that the groups should provide. The major targets of the HASP Program are to foster student excitement in an aerospace career path and to assist address workforce development issues in this space. HASP plans to offer a “area test platform” to encourage pupil analysis and stimulate the development of student satellite payloads and different space-engineering products. HASP consists of a normal mechanical, energy and communication interface for the coed payload, based upon a flight tested design. This simplifies integration, allows the student payloads to be absolutely exercised, and minimizes platform improvement / operation costs. In addition, HASP is lightweight and has easy mission necessities, thus providing most flexibility within the launch schedule. The High Altitude Student Platform is designed to hold as much as twelve pupil payloads to an altitude of about 36 kilometers with flight durations of 15 to twenty hours using a small volume, zero strain balloon.
